Boost performance: Introducing Liquid Profiling

In the CMS product Plate Multisite, Liquid as a scripting language is an essential part of the front-end setup. We’ve implemented an update to help you improve the performance of Liquid code, by providing you with more insight into how your Liquid templates function.

Today we’re introducingLiquid Profiling in Plate Multisite—a powerful new feature that gives you deep insights into how your Liquid templates render, helping you optimize performance with precision.

With Liquid Profiling, you get a transparent, visual breakdown of how your Liquid templates execute, identifying bottlenecks and inefficiencies before they impact your user experience. Let’s dive into what this means for you as a Plate Multisite front-end developer.

What is Liquid Profiling?

Liquid Profiling allows you to analyze the execution time of your Liquid templates at a granular level. Whenever a template is rendered, Plate now records:

  • Total render time for each Liquid component
  • Which Liquid tags take the longest to process
  • Nesting and execution order of templates
  • Performance impact of includes, loops, and filters

Instead of guessing why a page is slow, you now have data-driven insights to make informed optimizations.

How It Works

Profiling Your Liquid Templates

  1. Navigate to your Plate Dashboard → Liquid Profiles.
  2. Run a test on any page or component.
  3. Instantly get a visual timeline of Liquid execution, complete with timing breakdowns.
  4. Identify and fix bottlenecks—whether it’s an inefficient `for` loop, a slow `include`, or heavy API calls.

Data That Makes a Difference

Liquid Profiling automatically logs your template execution and presents it in an easy-to-read format. You can:

  • Pin key profiles to track improvements over time
  • Filter results by execution time to focus on slow sections
  • Download JSON data for advanced debugging

With real-time profiling, you can test optimizations instantly, ensuring that every performance tweak delivers measurable results.

Why this feature matters for developers

  • Faster Page Loads – A snappier site means better user engagement and higher conversions.
  • Data-Driven Optimization – Stop guessing and start fixing with clear insights.
  • Continuous Improvement – Track performance changes across updates.
